The building and its setting
The pair has matching central entrances with arched canopies, gables and ornamental iron balconies. Harled walls and dressed stone openings give the houses a different texture from entirely ashlar public buildings.
Its story
HES dates the houses broadly within the nineteenth century and cites their appearance on the 1878 Ordnance Survey map. The conservation appraisal places Victoria Place within the residential expansion south of the railway.
Why it is included
The pair provides a domestic comparison with town-centre buildings and represents the villa streets.
What to look for
- Mirrored entrances and iron balconies
- Decorative eaves and boundary ironwork
Reading the surroundings
View from the public street and respect private gardens and homes.
What we know — and what remains uncertain
No named architect or exact construction year is established. The listing did not inspect the interiors; private gardens are not public visitor space.
