The building and its setting
Columns and a broad pediment organise the facade. Round-arched lower windows contrast with tall rectangular openings above; the dated entrance and burgh arms explain its original civic identity.
Its story
Built with Carnegie support as Airdrie’s first purpose-built library, the building was superseded by the Wellwynd library. HES records conversion into an arts centre in 1967, including a raked theatre with 168 seats.
Why it is included
The building demonstrates how a library could be adapted for performance while retaining its public facade.

What we know — and what remains uncertain
The association describes the arts centre as closed. The historic theatre description is not evidence of a currently operating venue.
