Architecture, archaeology and continuing use
The two-storey three-bay house is built from semi-coursed rubble above prominent fieldstone footings. A central two-leaf door, small windows, stone stacks and a slate roof retain the deliberately unadorned street elevation.
Its story
The plot formed part of the layout shown in 1768, and the house was built later in the eighteenth century. Maps record evolving rear ranges and a courtyard, most of which were subsequently removed. The designation record was comprehensively revised in 2024.
Why it is included
Category C listing recognises a well-preserved early planned-village house whose form and materials express the economic intentions of Grantown’s founders.
What to notice
- Large field-boulder foundations.
