Architecture and continuing use
A dry-dashed three-bay upper floor sits above a modern tripartite shopfront and separate doors. The regular sash-window rhythm, dormers and broad chimney stacks preserve the traditional form.
Its story
Commercial adaptation changed the ground floor while the upper house remained part of South Main Street’s historic building line. A current Post Office contract was signed in 2019.
Why it is included
The building balances monumental Wigtown with a representative mixed-use property still serving residents and visitors.
What to notice
- Three evenly spaced first-floor windows.
- Small box dormers in the slate roof.
- Contrast between traditional upper floor and later shopfront.
Reading the surroundings
Use during advertised branch hours. The service counter and shop are public; separate doors and upper accommodation remain private.
