Architecture and continuing use
Slender cusped windows and sparse red-sandstone dressings articulate the brick nave. A bowed apse, small bellcote, side chapel and statue niche give the modest building a clear ecclesiastical character.
Its story
Built to seat a nineteenth-century Catholic congregation, Sacred Heart now operates within a wider parish grouping centred on Kirkcudbright and Whithorn.
Why it is included
It represents Catholic worship and restrained brick Gothic architecture within a townscape otherwise dominated by stone and harl.
What to notice
- Statue niche above the north entrance.
- Bowed apse and small bellcote.
- Minimal sandstone dressings against the brickwork.
