Architecture and continuing use

Pink sandstone and polished dressings define a Latin-cross plan with pointed openings and traceried windows. A buttressed square tower becomes octagonal before reaching its zinc-clad spire. Timber galleries, pews and pulpit survive inside, while a castellated hall extends the group to the rear.

Its story

Park Church was built in 1863 and later gained its adjoining hall. Denominational changes around Uddingston altered the names and affiliations of local congregations, but Park remained independent of the union that created Uddingston Old. It now belongs to the United Free Church of Scotland and maintains regular worship and youth activity.

Why it is included

Category B listing recognises a prominent Victorian church, intact interior ensemble and continuing religious and community life at the centre of Uddingston.

What to notice

  • The transition from square tower to octagonal belfry and spire.
  • Pointed doorway, traceried windows and terrace gatepiers.
  • Three-sided timber galleries on cast-iron supports.

Reading the surroundings

Attend advertised services or contact the church. Respect worship, youth safeguarding, funerals and booked groups; not every hall or gallery space is open at all times.
