Architecture and continuing use
Painted render faces Dalrymple Street while whinstone rubble appears on the side walls. A dentilled corniced doorway, regularly placed windows and the later gabled hall express a deliberately economical Presbyterian design.
Its story
The congregation built the church in 1824–1825. Sir James Caird later gifted land for the 1898 hall, and the building remains a place of worship and congregational activity.
Why it is included
Its continuing use makes a valuable contrast with Stranraer’s closed and adapted churches while illustrating the plain meeting-house tradition.
What to notice
- Central pilastered and corniced doorway.
- Contrast between rendered front and rubble side walls.
