Architecture and continuing use

The three-bay nave, narthex and chancel sit beneath a slate roof with a small western bellcote. Inside, the wagon roof leads toward Comper’s altar tester, font cover and stained glass.

Its story

Ross and Macbeth rebuilt an earlier mission chapel on Abban Street in 1903. Comper added the Lady Chapel and distinctive furnishings in 1910.

Why it is included

Its restrained exterior and nationally significant interior work show how architectural character can be concentrated in liturgy, craft and light rather than scale.

What to notice

  • The spired bellcote on the west gable.
  • The timber wagon roof.
  • Comper’s tester, font cover and east window.

Reading the surroundings

The congregation publishes regular services. Visit respectfully around worship and check current information before travelling; private vestry and ancillary areas are not visitor space.
