Architecture and continuing use
A channelled two-storey gable front has a shallow porch, sculpted angels in the pediment and a square bellcote. Inside, two tiers of cast-iron columns support galleries around an elaborate sanctuary.

Built for Glasgow’s expanding Catholic population, St Mary’s survived major internal change after the 1865 ceiling collapse. It briefly served as pro-cathedral while St Andrew’s Cathedral was refurbished.

Its scale, Category A status and continuous parish life make it a major monument to nineteenth-century Catholic Glasgow.
