Architecture and continuing use

Gabled bays, mullioned and transomed windows, carved thistle detail, crenellation and an iron-and-glass porch build an irregular silhouette around the corner site.

Its story

James A. Morris designed the house for politician C. L. Orr-Ewing in 1896 and extended it in stages. Later conversion established the hotel use now associated with the Savoy Park name.

Why it is included

It illustrates Ayr’s affluent late-Victorian domestic architecture and a comparatively compatible long-term reuse in hospitality.

What to notice

  • The entrance porch and arched leaded light above.
  • Varied gables, bay windows and parapet shapes.
  • Thistle carving and other small nationalist details.
