Architecture and continuing use
The two-storey block is symmetrical across a broad frontage. Shops sit below a continuous cornice, while close entrances have porches with red-granite columns. Twin central gables, parapeted end bays, finials, canted windows and leaded upper panes turn an ordinary mixed-use type into a strong town-centre landmark.
Its story
Built about 1905, the range incorporated shops and a basement Maverton Hall, later divided for storage. The block remains in commercial use: a current local business directory, for example, places a bathroom showroom at 192 Fenwick Road.
Why it is included
Category C listing protects a complete early twentieth-century commercial composition and shows how retail, hall and upper accommodation were combined as Giffnock expanded.
What to notice
- The continuous cornice containing the sequence of shopfronts.
- Red-granite columns at the close entrances.
- Twin central gables balanced by parapeted outer bays.
Reading the surroundings
The pavement and individual shops are used in the ordinary way, but closes, upper floors, basement and storage areas are not assumed to be public. Check each business’s own opening arrangements.
Timeline

What we know — and what remains uncertain
Individual units and upper-floor uses can change quickly. The record describes a mixed-use range without claiming that every address has the same occupation.
