Architecture and continuing use

The house is two storeys with an attic and a three-window principal front. A slated roof, granite ashlar and timber entrance portico provide the main formal elements, with a lower addition extending one end.

Its story

Kintore Lodge belongs to the period when refined granite houses appeared around the growing burgh. The brief national record contains an evident typographical date, so the building is described cautiously as probably dating from about 1800 rather than repeating it literally.

Why it is included

Category B listing recognises a well-proportioned small house whose materials and classical restraint contribute to Kintore’s early nineteenth-century domestic landscape.

What to notice

  • The three-window symmetry of the main elevation.
  • The timber portico against granite ashlar.
  • The transition from the principal block to the lower addition.

What we know — and what remains uncertain

The exact construction year and sequence of later work require documentary research, and the private interior was not examined.
