Architecture and continuing use

The single-storey lodge uses coursed rubble and ashlar with a base band and long-and-short quoins. A bowed north end carries paired windows, while a central shaped chimney and hipped slate roof give the compact building a distinctive outline. A later rear extension and glazed porch record adaptation.

Its story

Probably built around 1830, the lodge stood at the head of Mavisbank’s north drive. It was later associated with neighbouring Linden Lodge. As Loanhead expanded around the old approach, the small building became partly concealed within a more domestic streetscape.

Why it is included

It preserves the line and scale of an estate entrance within modern Loanhead and forms a close historical group with the jointure house and Linden Lodge.

What to notice

  • The bowed north end with paired windows.
  • Long-and-short ashlar quoins against rubble walls.
  • A shaped central chimney above the hipped roof.

Reading the surroundings

Treat the lodge and its surroundings as private. View from Linden Place without entering drives or looking into windows.
