YOUR JOURNEY THROUGH SCOTLAND
Five discoveries to take with you.
How the tour chooses your stops
Each stop comes from a published heritage record. The tour favours different Places and gives each matching Place a chance to appear. Council areas and settlement sizes follow the record’s mapped point. A site outside a built-up settlement can therefore fall in the rural band even when its Place page is named after a nearby town.
Size uses the NRS 2022 settlement boundaries and populations, grouped into the Scottish Government’s population bands: under 3,000; 3,000–9,999; 10,000–124,999; and 125,000 or more. Council boundaries come from the Scottish Government’s geographical service.
A/B/C filters require an explicit category and a listed-building reference in our record. An associated or nearby listing does not qualify the whole record. Missing information is not treated as proof that a site is unlisted. Records without a secure geographical match remain available under “All Scotland” and “Any settlement size”. Building types and dates are shown as recorded descriptions, and do not control selection.
If there are fewer than five matches, you can take a shorter tour or broaden a choice. No filters are changed without your selection. The complete records provide sources, qualifications and available illustrations. This is a virtual tour, rather than a travel route.
Tour progress is kept in this browser tab for convenience. The tour adds no account, location request or visitor tracking. Saved and shared tours contain the selected public records.
