Architecture, archaeology and continuing use

The harled, three-storey, three-bay block has a first-floor central doorway reached by a forestair, with ground-level doors and later shop windows beneath. A narrow gable faces Shore Street, and a single end stack rises at the opposite side.

Its story

The warehouse belongs to Ullapool's early development as a British Fisheries Society settlement. Its upper loading access and compact waterfront position recall storage and trade, while later shopfronts record adaptation to street-level commerce.

Why it is included

Category B listing recognises a prominent and legible survivor of the town's late eighteenth-century mercantile fabric, strengthened by a continuing commercial role.

What to notice

  • The forestair rising to the former loading doorway.
  • Later shop windows inserted beside ground-floor entrances.
  • The narrow Shore Street gable revealing the building's height.

Reading the surroundings

Use only advertised public retail entrances and respect any private or staff-only upper floors. The pavements are active town routes, so avoid blocking doors, steps or sightlines.

What we know — and what remains uncertain

Available sources identify current retail associations but do not establish the precise use of every floor or current daily opening hours.
