Architecture, archaeology and continuing use
Tooled rubble and ashlar form a three-storey, five-bay block. Wide segmental ground openings, shuttered windows and a first-floor loading entrance reached by a short raised roadway reveal how grain moved through the building.
Its story
A and W Reid designed the granary in 1865, when Burghead remained a significant port and agricultural outlet. Its purpose-built loading arrangements survive in the exterior.
Why it is included
Category B listing recognises a substantial documented granary that demonstrates continued nineteenth-century investment in Burghead’s export trade.
