Architecture and continuing use

The two-storey, five-window centre is flanked by gabled wings. Red snecked rubble provides the main walling, while sculptured dormer heads and an Ionic doorpiece enrich the balanced front. Its seventeenth-century Scots references are adapted to an interwar institutional plan.

Its story

Stewart and Paterson designed the hospital in 1928–29. It became a long-standing healthcare centre for Auchterarder and the surrounding district. Recent official NHS recruitment described a twelve-bed GP unit offering rehabilitation, step-down and palliative care, while national statistics record that the separate minor-injury function closed in 2020.

What to notice

  • Sculptured dormer heads above the central range.
  • The classical Ionic entrance within Scots-style masonry.
  • Gabled wings framing the balanced approach.
