Architecture and continuing use

The two- and three-storey mansion combines battlements, towerlets and imitation-stone facing. HES records an earlier farmhouse or mill-house nucleus, while a date of 1705 survives above the walled-garden gate.

Its story

An earlier component preceded the main rebuilding around 1848. The Victorian campaign created the present castellated appearance, with a later southern addition. The building was listed in 1979 and now supports small-scale guest accommodation.

Why it is included

It provides a domestic counterpart to Ardgowan’s estate architecture and makes adaptation across several centuries visible within one building.

What to notice

  • Changes between two- and three-storey sections.
  • Small towerlets and battlemented wallheads.
  • The 1705 date above the walled-garden gate.

Reading the surroundings

This is a private home and bed-and-breakfast. Access is for booked guests or by permission; do not enter the drive, garden or accommodation areas simply to inspect the exterior.

What we know — and what remains uncertain

HES could not securely distinguish the earlier nucleus, and current accommodation availability may change; the map marks the designated point, not a public entrance.
