Architecture, archaeology and continuing use

The single-storey and attic building has a three-bay front with a pilastered entrance, sculpted overpanel and large mullioned and transomed windows. Curvilinear dormer gables and tall end stacks create a deliberate Scottish Renaissance character.

Its story

Peddie and Washington Browne designed the purpose-built public library in 1905–06. Its civic learning function has continued and expanded to include public computers, printing, advice and council contact services.

Strong named architects, clear civic purpose and uninterrupted public use give this modest Category B building high social and architectural value.
