Architecture, archaeology and continuing use

Pinned rough ashlar forms a segmental arch with raised voussoirs and a central keystone. Brick lines the underside of the span, while masonry approaches extend the bridge into the banks.

Its story

The bridge was built in 1908, when Cruden Bay’s resort development and established village required durable local connections. The designation tentatively associates the design with Davidson.

Why it is included

Category C listing recognises a well-defined local crossing whose stone arch, brick intrados and dated construction contribute to the village’s transport history.

What to notice

  • Raised wedge-shaped stones around the arch.
  • The central keystone.
  • Brickwork visible beneath the granite span.

Reading the surroundings

Use pavements or other clearly public pedestrian space, remain alert to vehicles and do not climb parapets or descend to the water without a safe lawful route.
