Architecture and continuing use

Raised rusticated quoins, moulded eaves and a rolled skew frame the range. A circular panel occupies the dated pediment, while number 24 has a centred doorway with a dentilled entablature carried on ancone brackets.

Its story

The 1714 date places the range among the earliest clearly dated secular buildings in Kilwinning’s centre. Later division and repair adapted it to several addresses while the elevated pavement and cross retained a strong historic grouping.

Why it is included

It gives domestic and commercial scale to the early-eighteenth-century centre and forms a direct architectural relationship with the mercat cross.

What to notice

  • The 1714 pediment and circular panel.
  • Rusticated quoins against the smoother stucco.
  • Steps, railings and the pavement raised above street level.

Reading the surroundings

View from the public pavement without blocking doors or steps. Treat all interiors and upper floors as private unless a current occupier clearly invites entry.

What we know — and what remains uncertain

The pediment date is secure, but the designation does not separate every later alteration or confirm current room-by-room occupancy.
